GNP2U: Grace and Peace to you!

Recently, as I was about to wish someone good luck, I started to wonder why I would do such a foolish thing…

If God is with us and in us in spirit, why on earth do we put hope in something as foolish as luck?! Exaggeration aside, we’re obviously just expressing that we care about someone and want things to go well for them. But it’s still worth thinking about why we don’t encourage (in Christ) more than we currently do. (more…)

Christianity: A Balloon Waiting to be Popped?

Balloon

I think the world often sees Christianity as a big balloon that’s just waiting to be popped. There’s just so many different angles you can attack it from. It’s got so many pins pressed against it from all sides that it just doesn’t seem like something you could possibly have a solid foundation in. Yet there’s something peculiar about this big balloon… it doesn’t seem to have been popped yet!?

As a great number of ‘experts’ push their pins deep into this balloon, the world looks away, thinking that there’s not a chance of it surviving. If only they opened their eyes! (more…)

Daily Bible Verse Script

After spending a few minutes looking for a nice, light weight, “Verse of the day” program for Linux, I decided I’d taken too long and wrote my own. :D

It grabs the verse from the Bible Gateway feed and prints it. Very simple. But used in conjunction with something like Zenity, it serves it’s purpose quite nicely. I run mine as a startup program, so it shows it whenever I login. (more…)

Socialising != Fellowship

Something I’ve been thinking about lately is the difference between socialising and fellowship. I think we often mistake them for the same thing, when really they can be very different. (more…)

Apologetics: The Big Picture

My church just recently held a “summer intensive” for uni students, where we had talks on 1 Corinthians, as well as evangelism and apologetics. I have to say, I did not expect it to be so good! (more…)

“There’s Probably No God”

A few years ago I actually thought that there was substantial evidence against God’s existence. Not affirming evidence, but convincing nevertheless. But with Atheist slogans like “There’s probably no God”, along with the mountains of evidence to the contrary, I now find myself looking unto Atheism with utter bemusement. (more…)

Profanity: Female Dogs and Censorship

There are two issues I’d like to address here. One being the practice of censorship and the other being the seemingly recent popularity of female dogs. Both issues involve people seeing how close they can get to the line without crossing it, though I’d argue they’ve already crossed it by far. (more…)

Genesis: The Spread of Sin

I wrote this short commentary for uni and it was the first time I ever received an A for anything I think :P, so I hope you enjoy.

The spread of sin in Genesis 3 - 11 gives us the reason for why the world is the way it is, abnormal and corrupt in God’s sight. From the initial sin that causes the fall of man comes a chain of events that show the effect sin has on us and the very world itself. The heights of mans disobedience of God eventually provoke the destruction of all living things in the flood and would eventually destroy mankind were it not for Christ. These chapters of Genesis show the problem of sin and eventually lead to the solution of redemption. (more…)

Ancient Christian Wisdom

I’ve just recently finished writing an essay for my Ancient History subject at uni, on Ignatius of Antioch. Here’s a quick intro to Ignatius:

Ignatius was a very early Christian bishop of the church in Antioch, Syria. By “very early” I’m talking around 100 AD! We learn about Ignatius through a number of letters he wrote to churches in the area of Asia minor (modern day Turkey). These letters were sent while he was under arrest and being transported to Rome, most likely to be executed. (more…)
