Apologetics: The Big Picture
My church just recently held a “summer intensive” for uni students, where we had talks on 1 Corinthians, as well as evangelism and apologetics. I have to say, I did not expect it to be so good! It would take me a while to try and cover everything I learnt, so I’ll save the rest for another post/posts.
The Big Picture
Too often I’ve measured the success of evangalism and apologetics on whether I won the argument or not. I haven’t really cared about whether that person actually now believes in Jesus or not. It’s just been about who had the most convincing arguments. Often I see people being even more turned off by Christianity after they’ve been fustrated about an argument with a Christian (regardless if they won or not).
The big picture is that it’s all about Jesus. You don’t have to win the argument, all that matters is that you faithfully shared the gospel in a Christian manner. Not with aggressive arguing but with faith in what you are sharing. An awkward conversion or “lost” argument could easily turn out to be more helpful for someone then an argument filled with pride and arrogance. After all, God works most often in the humble, you’d think we’d have learnt that by now!

I found your site when googling for gedit plugins. Great to see one who is not afraid to talk about Jesus. I am a father of two and a christian. One of the issues i am praying about is the wisdom to be able to raise my girls in Christ. Where i come from the social and school system helped the parents as christianity is woven into both systems but I find myself in London now and its scary sometimes how hostile society is to the notion of God not to mention Jesus. Keep up the good blog!!
Hi, thanks for the encouragement. It’s nice to know my stuff gets read :P. I’ve got family in London so I can relate, but you can always take comfort in knowing:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)
